National Medical Commission delisted Foreign Medical Colleges

According to NMC official website, it doesn’t endorse any foreign medical college for MBBS studies to Indian students. The Medical Council of India has provided a list of Foreign Medical Institutions for Medical courses or equivalent courses based upon the information from the Indian Embassy. National Medical Commission delisted Foreign Medical Colleges onwards the students can’t find any list of colleges on the official website.

Replacement of Medical Council of India

The replacement of the Medical Council of India (MCI) is recommended by NITI Aayog. The decision of replacement was sanctioned by the Prime Minister and further approved by most of the states. The Supreme Court of India had given the permission to replace the Medical Council of India to the Central Government. The medical regulatory body was replaced with National Medical Commission. In early 2019 the replacement order of MCI with the National Medical Commission was passed by the President of India.

After the approval of the Prime Minister of India, finally, the bill was presented to Dr. Harsh Vardhan the Minister of Health and Family Welfare. The bill has been passed by him and on August 8, 2019, a law was passed by the Parliament of India and the President of India approved it, to upkeep the National Medical Commission as a permanent regulating body.

National Medical Commission delisted Foreign Medical Colleges

The Medical Council of India had provided a list of foreign Medical Colleges / Institutions / Universities for studying MBBS or equivalent course based upon the information received from the Indian Embassy or High Commission of India.

Notification in 2018 made it clear to every Indian Citizens/Overseas Citizens of India who have obtained a primary medical qualification from any Medical Institutions outside the country have to qualify for the Screening Test in order to obtain the official registration in India.

The National Medical Commission clarifies that the regulatory body of Indian Medical Institutions (NMC) does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions or Universities for MBBS or equivalent courses in foreign countries.

Earlier for the medical graduates, FMGE i.e., Foreign Medical Graduates Examination was mandatory to crack to work as a doctor in India. After returning to India the students who have obtained their medical degree from the MCI certified college allowed to sit for FMGE.

Effect of National Medical Commission on delisting Foreign Medical Colleges

After the announcement of NMC students are getting negative as well as positive views about it. The Government of India is promoting overseas education in the field of MBBS or equivalent course for the medical aspirants in India.

Let us discuss the Impact of National Medical Commission decision.

NMC decision Pros towards the student’s life:

The greatest plus point of the NMC decision is that all the Universities carry the same credentials. If a medical student takes up admission to Harvard University or in any Medical College of Abroad is the same in the eye of NMC, the regulatory body of medical education in India.

In Abroad Countries there are many medical colleges providing proper infrastructure, a better quality of education but they aren’t listed in MCI so the students were unable to take admission in those colleges. But from now students can take admission in any college because National Medical Commission delisted Foreign Medical Colleges Abroad.

NMC decision Cons towards the student’s life:

  1. Extortion – NMC’s decision would increase the corruption in the Medical Colleges. Earlier, they file complaints against the University in the Embassy of India whenever a student had any dispute with College or University. Indian Embassy will withdraw the name of the University from the MCI list. So, after this removal of all foreign medical colleges from the NMC list, the Embassy of India can’t any measures the complaint of students.
  2. Bilingual Language – Various overseas countries provide bilingual education to Indian medical aspirants. Countries like China, Russia, and others have their study curriculum in English as well as the local language. Since 45 medical colleges of China are listed on the official website of MCI and rest of the colleges are delisted just because they were bilingual. Students’ thoughts would be manipulated by many of the fraud agents or unauthorized agents in the country.
  3. Gateway to Incompetent Universities – MCI listing criteria is to have proper infrastructure, a sufficient number of seats in the college, and the most essential part is quality education. Earlier, Universities unable to fulfill MCI criteria are not listed but as if now many incompetent Universities would find their gateway.

Conclusion

Students need not worry about the recognition and accreditation of NMC earlier known as MCI. But we advise the students to take up necessary research work regarding the college in overseas countries. Many of the reputed Universities Abroad are not listed in MCI but now students can take admission in any college, as NMC scrapped out all the overseas medical colleges.
